A Look Inside Our First Event Back on Campus!

In March 2020, Event Services transitioned to working remotely and events have not been able to take place in our venues since that time due to COVID-19 related restrictions. We were recently able to host an event, opening our doors for a livestream event on January 28, 2021. The University Faculty Lecture, originally scheduled for April 2020, was postponed in response to COVID-19 restrictions and was offered as an online-only event. The free, virtual lecture was hosted in Kane Hall, Room 130, with less than 10 individuals onsite. Within two weeks of the livestream being available to the public, it has been viewed nearly 1000 times. Event Services staff were present to ensure all aspects of the event went smoothly and all safety procedures were followed. Events hosted in our spaces must follow public health guidelines laid out by Washington State’s Safe Start plan, including:

  • Masks must be worn at all times.
  • High-touch surfaces cleaned daily.
  • Technology cleaned after each use.
  • Individuals present must remain six feet apart to ensure proper social distancing.
  • Additional cleaning supplies are available in all event spaces.
  • Prior to the event, the client and our office must each fill out the In-Person COVID-19 Prevention Plan in adherence with UW policy.

In addition to Event Services staff, UW Video assisted with the event set-up and recording to ensure a successful livestream was possible for this lecture. You can view the live stream lecture recording here. We want to note that because of the nature of this event and the distance between the guests and staff present, the speaker and moderator were able to remove their masks while speaking on stage.

The guidelines for in-person and virtual events are constantly evolving and Event Services is thrilled to be one step closer to hosting events once again. We are very excited to do so in the classroom, auditorium, or multi-purpose space that best accommodates your event needs. Our health and safety measures update as we receive new guidelines from government sources and University of Washington leadership. Stay safe and stay healthy, Huskies!
