General Assignment classrooms each belong to Group 1, Group 2, or Group 3. Each group type has different reservation policies which are designed to provide venue options for as many user groups as possible. Each group contains classrooms of various sizes and setup types. A large portion of the total general assignment classroom portfolio is classified as “Group 1” which are available at no-charge for most academic activities. Please note that fee-based activities require standard room reservation rates.

Group 1 Classroom
Group 1 classrooms are standard general assignment classrooms with basic features. The following general policy applies to G1 classrooms:
Available for departmental academic activities at no charge for most use.
- Fee-based activities require standard room reservation rates.
- Reasonable restrictions may be enforced to ensure equitable access for all users.
Available for Registered Student Organization (RSO) meetings at no charge up to 2 hours per week during academic quarters.
- Meeting attendance must be limited to UW students, staff, faculty.
- No fees or donations may be collected.
Applicable to all events and meetings
- Available for standard building hours only. Special exceptions are to be coordinated between the requesting party and the individual Building Coordinator.
- Repeated short-notice cancellation or booking no-show may result in temporary suspension of ability to request space.
- Event support is limited to restoring basic room functionality. No support is available for 3rd party AV.
- At Event Services discretion, rooms will be made available to non-UW groups at standard rental rates during non-peak times.
Group 2 Classroom
Group 2 classrooms may have additional technology options and/or updated furniture. The following general policy applies to G2 classrooms:
- Available for departmental and Registered Student Organization (RSO) activities at subsidized UW room rental rates.
- After-hours and weekend access may be available in some spaces.
- Event services may provide room support based on staff availability.
- Available to non-UW groups for rental at standard rates.
- Specific core academic activities requested by UW academic departments may be exempt from room charges.
Group 3 Classroom
Group 3 classrooms offer additional technology options and/or updated furniture. Most after-hours and weekend events are permitted. The following general policy applies to G3 classrooms:
- Available for departmental and Registered Student Organization (RSO) activities at subzidized UW room rental rates.
- Event Services to coordinate after-hours building access.
- Event Services will provide room support for Kane Hall and Mary Gates Commons.
- Available to non-UW groups for rental at standard rates.
